Info on Old City

The old city was first built in the 13th century AD. It was a fortress of Bad-Kube with its narrow and winding streets. Back when the city was first built it had several mosques, of Synyk-Kala which dates from the 11th century. And they built a Maiden's Tower which came from the 12th century. When the Russian government took control of Baku in the beginning of the 19th century, the city took on a whole new look with many beautiful European style buildings which where constructed in the 19th century and into the beginning of the 20th century.
